This is a belated note to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers, and friends for a great 2016 season.
To say that the season ended with a bang is a bit of an understatement.
The 2016 air show season was very successful for us as well as netting our sponsors close to four million impressions through the TV coverage, webcasts, web pages, Facebook postings and likes, as well as the personal contacts made at the air shows we attended. The EAA convention in Oshkosh, WI was a nine day event where I must have autographed a thousand programs alone.
I want to send a special thanks to 51-Aero, a data recording company, ERC racing fuels, Exotic Engine Development, Tempest Plus aircraft accessories, RC Engineering, a fuel injector company, Odyssey Batteries, Mike's Automotive, and R&E Fasteners for their product and financial support. All of which makes the team possible, and will show up in your sales and bottom line sooner or later.
All summer and across the country the engine in Blue Thunder ran strong without a single misfire to and from the air shows...except for the final event at the Reno Air Races and the last show of the season. After crossing the finish line for a very respectable second place finish in the Gold race on Sunday and while reducing power, the engine failed. This necessitated a forced landing that was just short of the runway, landing in the sage brush then rolling up onto the runway. There was some damage to the air scoop, radiator, and tail wheel.
All the repairs and modifications are complete now, and Blue Thunder is ready for the 2017 show season. The modifications were intended to make Blue lighter, faster, and easier to fly. Faster and easier to fly is yet to be determined but the new weight and balance shows the EOW to be exactly the same as before but the CG is a little further forward.
Again, the Blue Thunder Team is grateful for your financial, product, and moral support and we are hopeful that support will continue for the 2017 show season.
For the Blue Thunder Team,
